3Rd edition. SEPTEMBER \/ OCTOBER \/ NOVEMBER 2025<\/h4>\n

The SISTEM\u00c1TICA Y SEDUCTORA III<\/strong> residency is a collective and collaborative instance of debate and reflection to investigate Biennials of Contemporary Art in Latin America.<\/em><\/p>\n

This program will bring together artists and art workers for 18 or 45 days for horizontal research work, visits to the Biennial and institutions, and meetings to exchange experiences with local agents.<\/p>\n

The Residency has a face-to-face modality and ends with a presentation on OpenStudio<\/strong> in S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil. <\/p>\n

What are biennials and why research them?<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\n

The Biennials of Art are mega exhibitions that take place every two years, bringing together curators and artists under different themes to strengthen their internationalization while promoting tourism and the local economy.<\/p>\n

From the fifties to the present, Biennials have been held throughout the continent, with different<\/p>\n

ideological perspectives, and thematic approaches in relation to the production, circulation, and debate on art.<\/h3>\n

In our research, we have identified more than 30 of them, and we have focused on the 13 most influential Biennials, which we use as case studies.<\/p>\n

These are BienalSur (Argentina), Bienal Deformes (Chile), Biennial of Cuenca (Ecuador), Biennial of Curitiba (Brazil), Biennial of the End of the World (Argentina), Biennial IKA (Argentina), Biennial Coltejer (Colombia), Biennial Iberoamericana de Lima (Peru), Havana Biennial (Cuba), Mercosur Biennial (Brazil), Montevideo Biennial (Uruguay), S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial (Brazil) and SIART Biennial (Bolivia).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

From this study, we have identified types of biennials according to each institution’s priorities, negotiations, and local and international interests.<\/p>\n

SISTEM\u00c1TICA Y SEDUCTORA III<\/strong> is a Residency program that takes these mega-events as cases to investigate and critically analyze the art system from a Latin American perspective.<\/p>\n

At the same time, we will visit the 36th S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial<\/strong>, Curated by Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung with her team of co-curators consisting of Alya Sebti, Anna Roberta Goetz and Thiago de Paula Souza, as well as co-curator at large Keyna Eleison<\/p>\n

The S\u00e3o Paulo Biennial<\/strong> is the oldest and most relevant event for contemporary art in Latin America. Begun in 1951, it is one of the most important biennials internationally (together with the Venice Biennale and Documenta – Kassel).<\/span><\/p>\n

The SISTEM\u00c1TICA Y SEDUCTORA III Residency <\/strong>takes place in two consecutive months (September and October) in periods of 18 days.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both periods have the +ARQUIVO<\/strong><\/em> option, which extends the residency for 1 additional month (in total 45 days) to deepen the contents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
